Aeolus

Aeolus is Medec’s synergy of 40 years of experience in lung ventilation and a modern-day, highly ergonomic design, controlled by the latest state-of-the-art technology. This new-generation critical care station is our latest solution for a wide range of patients requiring respiratory assistance, from neonates to obese patients. Its powerful ventilation, capable of delivering very high flow rates, guarantees the highest precision ventilation over an extensive set of ventilation modes, as well as in non-invasive ventilation.

Its unique PureTouch® user interface allows you to swiftly monitor and adjust ventilation parameters on an 18.5 inch full-colour capacitive touchscreen with a touch of a finger.

Swipe through waveforms in a fluent motion and browse through settings effortlessly with an unprecedented simplicity and visual acuity.

The name Aeolus was chosen with purpose, inspired by the ancient god of winds, to reflect our mission to deliver precision control over respiratory support.

As in Greek mythology, Aeolus is the name of the god of the winds. He plays a crucial role as the ruler of the winds, capable of controlling them at will.

Balanced Flow Ventilation is an innovative ventilation mode featuring Dynamic Expiratory Control and a Balanced Pressure Decrease. This approach significantly reduces expiratory flow peaks, helping to prevent peripheral airway collapse and atelectasis. By maintaining more stable airway pressures, it may also reduce ventilatory complications, contributing to improved patient outcomes.

Aeolus offers precise volume monitoring and responsive trigger reaction. Its inspiratory flows up to 180 L/min, enabling optimal non-invasive ventilation with smart leakage compensation. Optional the Aeolus comprises a mesh-type nebuliser and bronchial suction with automatic oxygenation, as well as a multitude of support functions such as: software for non-invasive monitoring of ETCO2, a non-expirable paramagnetic O2 sensor and continuous oxygen concentration monitoring. After switching on the Aeolus, the physician can choose between default settings of ventilation parameters and alarms limits or adjust them based on patient weight and their experience. Ventilation modes and settings can also be configured to meet the physician’s daily demands. Aeolus’ alarm system classifies all alarms according to clinically relevant priorities and shows a straightforward message to inform the user.

Aeolus can be upgraded with unique functionalities:

  • qCON (Depth of Hypnosis Index), allows you to monitor consciousness of each individual patient providing improved patient outcome.
  • qNOX (Level of Nociception Index), allows you to monitor the nociception (response to pain stimulus) during general anaesthesia or in intensive care. When using nociception monitoring, analgesics / sedation can be dosed more accurately.

Aeolus includes the following standard functionalities:

  • Expiratory valve and flow sensor
  • Extendable arm with tubing holder
  • High-pressure hose for O2 / air supply with NIST connector
  • Galvanic Oxygen Sensor (optional: Paramagnetic)
  • Power cord
  • Four-wheel trolley

Optional accessories:

  • Heater-humidifier
  • Nebuliser kit
  • Capnography sensor

There is increasing preclinical evidence that mimicking the physiological variability in tidal volume is a new method to facilitate lung recruitment and reduce the risk of ventilator-induced lung injury. That is why in Medec’s volume control the tidal volume can be set with a degree of variability of 75 – 200 percent. These random breath-to-breath variations in tidal volume allow you to mimic spontaneous breathing during mechanical ventilation.

The qCON-qNOX module (option) allows you to measure the depth of anaesthesia and the level of nociception (response to pain stimulus). qCON monitors consciousness (EEG and EMG) and allows you to tailor the hypnotics to each individual patient, providing improved patient outcome and reduced costs. qNOX monitors nociception during general anaesthesia. When using both consciousness and nociception monitoring, hypnotics and analgesics can be dosed more accurately, reducing PONV and length of stay in post-operative care units.
